TJay Soccer: Frequently Asked Questions

1: In what age group would my child play?
2: What's the league refund policy?
3: When does the season start?
4: What's the difference between the county and in-house soccer programs?
5: I'd like to help, but don't know anything about soccer.  How can I help?
6: What does it take to get started in coaching?

1: In what age group would my child play?

The age group depends upon your child's age as of August first.  Your child will be placed on a team based on his/her age on that date.  Frederick County Youth Soccer consists of a Fall and a Spring season on a calendar year running from August 1 until July 31.  If your child is under the age of 8 on August 1 of a given year, your child is eligible to play U-8 soccer for the upcoming Fall season of that year and the upcoming Spring season of the next year.  Likewise, if your child is under the age of 10 on 8/1 of a given year, your child is eligible to play U-10 soccer for the upcoming Fall season of that year and the upcoming Spring season of the next year, and so on.  Note that U-8 (or U8) means under eight, so if a child is eight years old on August first, the lowest level at which they can play is U-10.  return to top

2: What's the league refund policy?

If you decide not to have your child play with TJAY soccer after you have already registered, the league will refund half of your registration fee up until April 1st in the Spring and until September 1st in the Fall.  After April 1st in the Spring season or September 1st in the Fall season, no refunds will be issued.  return to top

3: When does the season start?

Practice for the fall season will start between the middle and the end of August.  Games for the fall season will run from the first weekend in September through the beginning of November.  Practice for the spring season will start between the middle and the end of March.  Games for the spring season will run from the first weekend in April through the beginning of June.  return to top

4: What's the difference between the county and in-house soccer programs?

The in-house program is designed for younger players and meets two week day evenings per week at the same location (for the past several seasons that place has been Monocacy Middle School) and focuses on basic skills.

The county program practices one or two week day evenings per week.  Games can be scheduled any day of the week and weekend (most often Saturday) and are played primarily within Frederick County.  return to top

5: I'd like to help, but don't know anything about soccer.  How can I help?

There are lots of ways you can help in many different areas, even if you know nothing about soccer.  Ask your coach what you can do to be supportive.  See below for information on how to get started in coaching, even if you've never coached before.  return to top

6: What does it take to get started in coaching?

The Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) provides instruction in an F level licensing course that teaches you everything you need to know about coaching soccer at the youth levels.  The course requires a one day time commitment.  TJAY Soccer will reimburse you the cost of the course if you coach one of our teams.  return to top
